Periodic Table Quiz
How well do you know the elements? Find them on the periodic table, match names to symbols, or see how many you can get in 60 seconds. Start with the first 20 and work up to all 118.
Scroll the table sideways to see every group.
How to play. Pick a mode and a level. In Find by name, click or tap the element on the table; in Blank table, the boxes are empty, so you need to know where it sits. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move around the table, typing a symbol’s letters jumps to it (in Find by name), and Enter or Space chooses. In the name and symbol modes, pick one of four answers or press 1–4. A round is 10 questions; the sprint is as many as you can answer in 60 seconds. Press Enter for the next question. Your best streak in each mode and level, and your best sprint at each level, are saved in this browser.
Names and symbols follow IUPAC, including the four names approved on 28 November 2016: nihonium (Nh, 113), moscovium (Mc, 115), tennessine (Ts, 117), and oganesson (Og, 118) (IUPAC announcement). The quiz uses the US spellings aluminum and cesium; IUPAC writes aluminium and caesium. The layout, groups, and periods follow IUPAC’s periodic table (version of 4 May 2022), with the lanthanoids (La–Lu) and actinoids (Ac–Lr) in their own rows. IUPAC has not settled whether La and Ac or Lu and Lr belong in group 3, so the quiz gives those 30 elements no group number.
